Tower of Terror! Yup I finally did it!……. NEVER AGAIN!

Posted in DISNEY ATTRACTIONS, DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS with tags , on May 1, 2012 by disneychronicles

ok….so I finally conquered the Tower of Terror (my husband made me do it! and I will never let him forget it!)

The legend says that during a violent storm on Halloween night 1939, lightning struck the Hollywood Tower Hotel, causing an entire wing and an elevator full of people to disappear. And you’re about to meet them as you become the star in a special episode of

. . The Twilight Zone.

If you’ve never experienced the attraction, and you’d prefer to be kept in the dark until you do board it, you’ll want to bypass the spoilers that follow in the rest of the post…

“You’ve just entered…the Twilight Zone,” ….just hearing those words is enough to give you a bad case of the shivers.

Now If you’ve always wondered how it would feel in a free fall on an elevator; without the dying; then this is your ride!

After various spooky adventures, (which really aren’t that scary) the ride ends in a dramatic climax: a 13-story free-fall in stages. The ride features random drop sequences, allowing for a real sense of the unknown (and a different experience every time you ride), and visual, audio, and effects make the experience even more frightening. Because it’s a different experience every time you dare to ride!

At 199 feet, it’s also the tallest ride in WDW!

One of the Imagineers who designed the tower admitted that he’s too scared to ride his own creation. (I’m thinking this should have been a red flag for me!)

ok, so moving on….This is not for the faint of heart. I must say the visuals during the wait are all amazing and the cast members are really into their roles here. The ambiance is perfection.

I just hate the feeling of dropping, and my heart being stuck in mid-air, and going up and down again and again and again!!!!

I came out with my hands shaking from grabbing onto the handles too tight and my legs wobbling…..I think my heart may have stopped a few times! This was SHEER TORTURE!

Not ONE bit of it was enjoyable! and unlike all the short rides I complain about THIS one did not want to end!

So call me a wimp call me a baby…I’m sure many of you out there just LOVE this ride!

No worries I myself will not be taking up space in that queue EVER again! 😀

WARNING! You must be at least 40 inches tall to ride, and expectant moms and people prone to motion sickness or those with heart, neck, or back problems shouldn’t try to tackle it. Your stomach may also need a few minutes to find its way back to where it belongs after it’s all over.

50’s Prime Time Café

Posted in DISNEY DINING, DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS with tags , , on January 25, 2012 by disneychronicles

The 50’s Prime Time Cafe is located in Hollywood Studios.

Talk about Nostalgia!

Get ready for a wait in Dad’s living room! and a meal in Mom’s kitchen!

NO kidding! the whole place is decorated like a house straight out of the 1950s, including accessories, decorations, calendars, and even those old black-and-white TVs! While I Love Lucy and The Donna Reed Show play on a television screen, you can feast on meat loaf, pot roast, tuna casserole and fried chicken, all served on a Formica tabletop.  Now they aren’t quite as good as Mom used to make, but close.  Also keep your elbows off the table you never know when mom is watching! the servers really get into it so be on your best behavior or you may find yourself standing in the corner!  The server that you get can make the difference from having a good time or having a great time dining there.  They play a key role in the experience and the fun.

This is not an upscale place with gourmet food or the place for  a romantic dinner.  It is a fun and entertaining dining option and I think it is one of the better themed restaurants at Disney World.  The food is good, comfort food. Nothing fancy.  Know that going in and you will be fine.
Most families will have no problem finding something on the menu that each person will enjoy.  It is almost just like home.
I would recommend it.  This truly qualifies as an attraction as well as a restaurant.
Try it!

Toy Story Mania!

Finally after many many attempts we got on

TOY STORY MANIA!

(and it was ONLY a 45 minute wait) seriously the shortest we have seen in a while!  If Fastpass is offered, take one and return later.  It is located in Disney’s Hollywood Studios Theme Park at Pixar Place.

The queue itself is FUN…classic games like scrabble and candy land is what you will walk through.  A 5 foot audioanimatronic of Mr. Potato Head greets you on your walk through. When you ask him questions he talks back…you can actually carry a conversation!

Soon you will grab a pair of 3-D glasses before boarding your ride vehicle. Soon, you’re whirling onto the midway where you can use your car’s spring-action shooters to launch darts at balloons, toss rings at aliens, and splatter eggs at barnyard targets. Just as in the Magic Kingdom’s Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin, you’ll rack up points for targets hit and see your tally at ride’s end.  I recommend it! LOTS of fun!

Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater

Posted in DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS on October 7, 2011 by disneychronicles

This past weekend we checked out the Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant.

I’ll admit this place was fun, once. I don’t think I would go back.

You can’t beat the atmosphere, the drive-in concept is fun! You sit in cars with tables as if you’re in a drive-in movie theater and they show old sci-fi movies, cartoons and advertisements.

The food was pricey and just O.K. although it was so dark you could barely see it. The service was lacking and it was a little slow.  This restaurant would have great potential but I don’t rate it very highly after this experience.
