Have you seen the map of Hollywood Studios recently? If so you may be saying…WHAAAAT?!
Changes? OH YES! and plenty of them!

To make room for the 14 acre Star Wars and 11 acre Toy Story lands, a number of attractions and areas have closed. Starting with the removal of the Earffel tower.
It’s gone.

Walking around you will see most of the park is under construction. Walls are up almost everywhere.

Among other casualties: The Writer’s Stop, a place I loved! It will be remembered for being the perfect corner stop to get away from it all, have a quiet moment with a steamy cappuccino and the famous carrot cake cookie! Gone. UGH.

Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show, Streets of America, Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set….All Gone!

Disney has also discontinued two seasonal events — the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights and Star Wars Weekends.

I think the biggest shock for me was the Osborne Lights!! Why OH Why!!
I cannot even think of anything that comes close to that Holiday Light perfection!

Can you tell…I don’t do CHANGE well!

Moving on..

Disney’s Animal Kingdom used to be considered the half-day park. As Animal Kingdom has debuted new attractions and extended hours, Disney’s Hollywood Studios is starting to take on that reputation.

In my opinion it will have a different feel & flair once complete and a majority of it will focus on Star Wars which does not have as much appeal for me as it does for others.

What can I say it’s just not my thing! but I have a feeling they will do just fine! 😉

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights …a MUST see!

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights started in Arkansas as a single home’s annual display. Every year, Jennings Osborne and his family set up an elaborate collection of holiday lights and over the years, the collection of lights grew and grew! In 1995, the Osborne family decided to share their magic with the world, and Walt Disney World Resort happily offered to become the new permanent home for this exceptional exhibition of holiday cheer.
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is included with standard admission to Disney’s Hollywood Studios theme park.

Disney has added some new features to the Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights for 2012.
Starting this year, guests will be able to meet Santa Goofy each night the Osborne Lights are shown in a special “Goofy’s Winter Wonderland” area.  This meet-n-greet will be located on the Streets of America.
(We unfortunately missed this)
Also new this year is an eighth song for the Osborne Lights.  This new song is a special arrangement of the classic Christmas song, “Winter Wonderland” by Creative Entertainment Music Director Dan Stamper.
There’s still time to see it!
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights kick off November 9th and will run through January 6th.
If you haven’t been yet……It’s a MUST see!

A Hidden Gem at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

Posted in DISNEY DINING, DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS with tags , on August 5, 2012 by disneychronicles

ok, I’ll tell you about it only if you can keep a secret….

It is located right next door to the Sci Fi Dine In.  It is actually pretty unobtrusive, which is part of the charm…and it’s pretty easy to walk right on by and not realize what’s inside.

If you MUST have a coffee (like I usually do!) or you just need some time away from the crowds and hustle! this is the place to go!

What is it? you ask….

Stop into Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Writer’s Stop.  It is a hidden gem that is rarely crowded. Enjoy a good cup of coffee and a snack from the variety of bakery items available there.

It’s by no means a place to have a meal. If you need an afternoon pick-me-up or a morning wake-me-up, then its perfect! The Writer’s Stop offers both hot and cold beverages such as a variety of coffees, teas and soft drinks.

So take a stroll around, there’s plenty to look at or just pull up a chair and relax!   ENJOY!

…..but shhhhhhh don’t tell anyone about it! 😀

Indiana Jones….Epic Stunt Spectacular!

Posted in DISNEY ATTRACTIONS, DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS with tags , on July 23, 2012 by disneychronicles

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular is a stunt show that will both entertain and educate. Set on the set of the opening scene of Raiders of the Lost Ark, the stage production staff shooting the “movie”, prep the audience about what it takes to do action films. A few reenacted scenes later, and you’ve mastered the movie. Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular utilizes both action sequences and educating narrations, as you are guided through the steps of making an action movie, like Indiana Jones.

Do get there early or you may be stuck in the “standing room only” area. (yeah, that was us)

So honestly not really being a Indiana Jones fan I still found this interesting.  Although for me it was one of those shows you see once and don’t need to repeat very soon 🙂

Obviously not all will share this opinion.  The show is consistently upgrading it’s electronics and computer elements to keep it up to date. It is currently the longest running show at a Disney World park. The stunts are real but obviously it doesn’t always end well.

“In 2009 A Walt Disney World cast member is dead after an accident Monday evening at Hollywood Studios.

Stunt performer Anislav Varbanov, 30, was fatally injured during a rehearsal for the ” Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular.” He was doing a tumbling roll after 7 p.m. when he was hurt. He was pronounced dead at 8.43pm.”

I also have read this has not been the only incident but the most recent. Kinda puts a damper on the whole thing!

Check out the video….(no spoiler alert just a bit of the show)
