Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Posted in DISNEY RESORT REVIEWS with tags , on November 28, 2011 by disneychronicles

The Contemporary Resort located adjacent to the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, is typically a resort which many guests prefer to stay because of its location. It has 1,013 rooms and 25 suites.
But in my opinion if you don’t stay here you are not missing much. They call it sleek & modern but I call it cold and plain. I feel that it should have more of a Disney feel and less of the business meeting feel that it has.
The A-frame hotel has monorails whizzing through the lobby, (which is pretty awesome) giving a futuristic appearance to the resort which separates the Seven Seas Lagoon from Bay Lake.

Upon entering the lobby,  you are greeted by the feeling of a very stream-lined, city-like feel. Marble floors and walls are cream-colored and sparsely decorated. In short a very “contemporary” feel….and I have to add a strange musty smell.  I only mention this because I have been here a few times and have always noticed it. Strange.

What is great at this resort is Chef Mickey’s ….check out my review of the restaurant under Categories…Disney Dining.

The Grand Floridian

Beautiful, Beautiful place!…..but I don’t think it’s that great for kids. Not much to keep my boys in awe like some of the other properties.

Now some people may not agree with that but it is my opinion.  It is wonderful for adults.

The location is FANTASTIC!  It is on the Monorail line and it also has boats that connect the resort with the Magic Kingdom. Very convenient.

It is the  Crown Jewel of Walt Disney World!  Top-end restaurants here include Victoria & Albert’s and Citricos.

I recommend try them both! 🙂

The property opened on June 28, 1988 as the Grand Floridian Beach Resort. The name changed to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa during the fall of 1997. The resort contains 867 rooms among six buildings.  The resort offers two pools, a jacuzzi, and a white sand beach. The marina contains various watercraft rentals, including fishing excursions and a yacht. Other recreational activities include tennis programs, a mile-long jogging trail, health club, and preferred access to the Walt Disney World golf courses. The full service spa offers massages, therapies, and other treatments.

Disney’s Polynesian Resort

Posted in DISNEY RESORT REVIEWS with tags on November 9, 2011 by disneychronicles

It began operation on October 1, 1971 as one of Walt Disney World Resort’s first two on-site hotels.  It’s part of the original plan that Walt himself designed.

Did you know…

John Lennon signed the paperwork that officially broke up the Beatles at the Polynesian Resort on December 29, 1974.

The resort is located between the Transportation and Ticket Center and the Grand Floridian. It’s just across Seven Seas Lagoon from the Magic Kingdom. The Magic Kingdom monorail runs right through it, and it’s a short walk to the Epcot monorail.

I think the Polynesian is one of Disney’s most iconic resort hotels. The rooms are spacious and clean, the facility is beautifully decorated and very easy to find your way around.  It’s always magical to step into the lush tropical forest in the lobby and very convenient to take the monorail to the parks.

With 11 2-story and 3-story village longhouses that flank the Great Ceremonial House—built to resemble a royal Tahitian assembly lodge—the Resort has 847 luxurious rooms, decorated with rich tropical colors and furnished in traditional bamboo and rattan. It really has the polynesian feel. It is one of my favorite resorts on property.

Pop Century

Posted in DISNEY RESORT REVIEWS with tags on October 28, 2011 by disneychronicles

Disney’s Pop Century Resort is a Value Resort hotel featuring giant icons that salute many of the 20th-century popular culture crazes—including toys, gadgets, music, movies, fads and catch phrases.

There are many advantages to staying on the Disney World property and the value resorts are the least expensive way to do that. If I had to choose among the three this one is my favorite. It was also remodeled in 2010 so it still has that NEW smell!  They are all basic but Pop Century just seems to be a notch higher then the others.  The rooms are rather plain but still have that Disney feel.  The grounds are AWESOME especially if you have younger children. Oversized cartoon characters, big wheels, yo yo’s, bowling pins and much much more will keep your kids in awe…

It is a large property 2880 rooms in all, 3 swimming pools a children’s pool and an arcade.

You won’t get any special “perks” at his property but it will be clean and FUN!
