Rainforest Cafe – Downtown Disney

Posted in DISNEY DINING, EVERYTHING DISNEY with tags , on March 24, 2012 by disneychronicles

We stopped in at the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney.  It was during the remodel so it was a little bit boarded up but once you walked in you wouldn’t know it.  We had reservations for lunch but it still took about 45 minutes to get seated.  It really wasn’t that bad because being where we were the boys took advantage of some pin trading!  (of course)

To dine here and experience the rain forest jungle setting was fun! The atmosphere is amazing!

The Food  is ok…not great!!!  But the kids absolutely loved it!!   Do keep in mind that some of the animals are animated and will move & make sounds.  It’s not over the top but it does thunder and rain so that may scare little ones.  They also have a huge shop with rainforest theme items, they make it look as if we were under a tree canopy, and huge aquariums and animal bottom stools at the bars!

The theming is great to look at and If it is your birthday get a Volcano!!! (But it will cost you $15) 🙂

Captain’s Grill

…at the Yacht Club….

Stopped in for lunch and really enjoyed it!  The atmosphere is Great! It gives you the feel of a cruise ship dining room, with stripped blue and white washed wall paper and large oval boat hole windows and mirrors. (And you now I LOVE anything cruise ship related!)

and seriously…..do they not think of everything!!!!!

Check out this kids waiting area!

Although I do have to add it took 45 minutes to get our food.  I had reservations but we arrived a little early so I asked if it was possible to get seated early….NOPE…but we were seated about 5 minutes after our reservation time which is GREAT by “Disney” standards. They were turning quite a few people away saying that it would be about a 45 minute wait also. I was surprised by this because when we were seated about 60% of the restaurant was empty! No kidding! Staffing issues possibly?? They really did turn a lot of money away!

Anyway on to the food….

Had the Grilled Chicken Sandwich

(Prosciutto, Aged Vermont Cheddar, and Arugula Salad on a House-made Onion Roll with a choice of Vegetable Orzo Salad
or French Fries) price $12.99

It was fresh and good! Although I do have to add it took 45 minutes to get our food.  The one thing that was a negative for me was the coffee….really!!! why can’t Disney get the coffee right! It was very weak and almost looked like tea!

Overall It was a good meal, I was actually surprised by the good quality of the food. I would recommend it!

YUM!

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY!

50’s Prime Time Café

The 50’s Prime Time Cafe is located in Hollywood Studios.

Talk about Nostalgia!

Get ready for a wait in Dad’s living room! and a meal in Mom’s kitchen!

NO kidding! the whole place is decorated like a house straight out of the 1950s, including accessories, decorations, calendars, and even those old black-and-white TVs! While I Love Lucy and The Donna Reed Show play on a television screen, you can feast on meat loaf, pot roast, tuna casserole and fried chicken, all served on a Formica tabletop.  Now they aren’t quite as good as Mom used to make, but close.  Also keep your elbows off the table you never know when mom is watching! the servers really get into it so be on your best behavior or you may find yourself standing in the corner!  The server that you get can make the difference from having a good time or having a great time dining there.  They play a key role in the experience and the fun.

This is not an upscale place with gourmet food or the place for  a romantic dinner.  It is a fun and entertaining dining option and I think it is one of the better themed restaurants at Disney World.  The food is good, comfort food. Nothing fancy.  Know that going in and you will be fine.
Most families will have no problem finding something on the menu that each person will enjoy.  It is almost just like home.
I would recommend it.  This truly qualifies as an attraction as well as a restaurant.
Try it!
