Disney for Adults….sometimes you need to keep the kids at home!

Posted in EVERYTHING DISNEY with tags on August 17, 2012 by disneychronicles

“Disney World is a great place to take the kids. Once. Because we have to.” Can you believe MANY people actually think this!

Well I obviously don’t agree and I also believe that many adults don’t really understand all that Disney has to offer and not only for the kids!

REALLY!

Believe it or not I know plenty of adults who enjoy “the Happiest Place on Earth” just as much if not more!

Disney execs and imagineers work hard to ensure that adults are well catered to throughout Disney World’s four theme parks, two water parks, dozens of dining establishments, and over 20 resort hotels. You’d be surprised how much fun the place can be for “grown-ups.” Take my word for it!

Experiencing Disney World with an adult beverage in hand is an entirely different experience, if not jarring at first. Disney Hollywood Studios, EPCOT and Animal Kingdom all serve adult beverages from beer to cocktails to wine. Beer lovers should head to the Animal Kingdom to find some rare finds from Africa and India.Try turning the World Showcase at EPCOT into a global drinking game, tasting specialty drinks from each nation.  But beware, the Magic Kingdom is a dry park.

Disney also keeps its gates open late for guests staying at Disney resorts. And we’re talking late … as in 2 a.m. in some instances.  Most of the rides and some shops stay open, and it’s perfect for night-owl adults who want to enjoy the parks after most of the kids have gone to bed.

You also might not expect it, but Disney World is home to some fantastic, upscale restaurants featuring some of the world’s most renowned chefs. From Wolfgang Puck’s Café in Downtown Disney, to Todd English’s bluezoo at the Swan & Dolphin hotel to Cat Cora’s Kouzzina at Disney’s BoardWalk Area, there’s something for every palate. There’s even a AAA 5-Diamond restaurant, Victoria and Albert’s, that has a dress code and age requirement.

I do have to mention a favorite event of mine.  It is the Food and Wine Festival at Epcot.

This year it will be September 28 to November 12, 2012. No kids required to have fun!

I will blog more in depth about this event in another post because there is so much to cover but it is a great way to eat around the world!

There are also countless activities in Disney where you won’t likely find a throng of screaming children and appeal to a more mature audience. EPCOT offers a Behind the Seeds tour of their state-of-the-art greenhouses; Disney Hollywood Studios offers an Animation Academy where you can learn to draw iconic characters from animators themselves; and several resorts have their own marinas where you can rent boats of all sizes by the half-hour and hour. There is so much to do for adults and if you can visit the park when school is in session, even better.

As you can imagine Disney is also a great spot for anniversaries, proposals, and weddings. They do truly do it right!

Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure

Posted in DISNEY'S EPCOT, EVERYTHING DISNEY with tags , , on August 11, 2012 by disneychronicles

We were over at Epcot last week and had a chance to check out Phineas & Ferb!

We finally got through a full game! Only got on about 2 rides but oh well!

The NEW adventure is very familiar to the old Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure, with the concept being very much the same.  The Kimmunicator is out, and the FONE is in – a mobile device which is your interface to the game play.  The same physical sets are used from Kim Possible, but the animation and storyline is of course all new.

It is safe to say that if you were a fan of the Kim Possible game before, you will continue to enjoy this new version.  Phineas and Ferb fans will be very happy to see the characters expanded beyond the meet and greet at the Studios.  My boys are big fans of the cartoon so they absolutely LOVE this!

It has gotten to the point that we come just for the game! Arghhhhh! well I do admit it keeps them busy and I have been able to do some in-depth window shopping throughout the world showcase!! (not complaining at all here)

Guests become “agents” and use a “high-tech secret agent device” to search for clues. Different cases are also available in Mexico, France, Germany, Norway, China and the United Kingdom. Guests follow instructions given on the screen of a cell phone to interact with objects hidden around World Showcase. There are different missions to complete in many of the different countries of World Showcase.

After walking us through how to properly use our FONE, we find out which country our assignment is in. And in the next few screens we get to see Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Phineas, Ferb, and Candace. If you watch the cartoon you will be familiar with thee characters.

From there the story plays out in much the same way as every episode of Phineas and Ferb. Doof has an “inator” he’s created in order to help him carry out current scheme. Meanwhile it seems Phineas, Ferb, and Candace are having an adventure of their own. These events converge, and, along with the help of Agent P, Doofenshmirtz’s plot is foiled. When we returned our FONE to the drop box at the end of the adventure. You will see these drop boxes conveniently located at many different locations throughout the world showcase.

It is fun but be aware it does take up a lot of time. So if your on a strict schedule with what you want to see this may not be a good idea.

Vinylmations?…..Vinylmations!….the new obsession!

Posted in EVERYTHING DISNEY with tags , on August 8, 2012 by disneychronicles

Yes! It is the boys NEW obsession! AGHHHHHH!!! and I thought the pins were bad enough!…..although these things are really cute!…I must admit!

So what are they you ask?

Vinylmation is a collectible designer toy created by Disney Theme Park Merchandise.  The name Vinylmation is a combination of the word Animation and Vinyl. The figures are all shaped like Mickey Mouse but have different themed markings, colors and patterns.

The first Vinylmation Figures introduced were the blank, white Create-Your-Own figures, which were released on November 7, 2008 at the annual Festival of the Masters event held in the Downtown Disney Area at Walt Disney World Resort. Shortly after, the Park #1 Series was introduced on December 18, 2008 in Florida.

What do you do with them? (besides keep buying more & more!)

Disney Parks allow people to trade in their Vinylmations for either one out of a mystery box numbered one through 24, or for one in a small clear case. If you do not like the Vinylmation from the mystery box then you may trade with one of three in a clear case that you can see which ones there are. You can trade them in at most stores throughout Walt Disney World, the Disneyland Resort, and in several Disney stores.

What are the guidelines for Trading?

Vinylmation Trading is something the whole family can enjoy. The most important guideline to remember is to have fun collecting or trading the Vinylmation Figures you like.

  • The main criteria to judge whether aVinylmation Figure is tradable or not is that it must bear a “Disney” mark and either a Vinylmation Logo or Art of Disney Theme Parks logo on the bottom foot stamp.
  • Vinylmation Figures should be in good, original, undamaged, tradable condition.
  • Create-Your-Own Vinylmation Figures are not accepted for trade.
  • When trading with Cast Members, Guests may only trade for a Vinylmation Figure that is in the same proportion to the one being offered for trade (e.g. 3″ Vinylmation Figure for a 3″ Vinylmation Figure).
  • Additional items (e.g. packaging, product cards, buttons, etc.) are not required to be offered in trade when trading with Cast Members.
  • Guests may trade a maximum of two (2) Vinylmation Figures per location, per day.
  • When trading with Cast Members from a non-mystery “Trade Me” box, Guests should offer a Vinylmation Figure not currently displayed in the box.
  • Monies, gifts or receipts may not be exchanged or used in trade for a Vinylmation™ Figure.

Trading of figures is officially encouraged and practiced at Disney locations in a fashion similar to Disney pin trading.

So get out there and do it!!!
