Yes! It is the boys NEW obsession! AGHHHHHH!!! and I thought the pins were bad enough!…..although these things are really cute!…I must admit!
So what are they you ask?
Vinylmation is a collectible designer toy created by Disney Theme Park Merchandise. The name Vinylmation is a combination of the word Animation and Vinyl. The figures are all shaped like Mickey Mouse but have different themed markings, colors and patterns.
The first Vinylmation Figures introduced were the blank, white Create-Your-Own figures, which were released on November 7, 2008 at the annual Festival of the Masters event held in the Downtown Disney Area at Walt Disney World Resort. Shortly after, the Park #1 Series was introduced on December 18, 2008 in Florida.
What do you do with them? (besides keep buying more & more!)
Disney Parks allow people to trade in their Vinylmations for either one out of a mystery box numbered one through 24, or for one in a small clear case. If you do not like the Vinylmation from the mystery box then you may trade with one of three in a clear case that you can see which ones there are. You can trade them in at most stores throughout Walt Disney World, the Disneyland Resort, and in several Disney stores.
What are the guidelines for Trading?
Vinylmation Trading is something the whole family can enjoy. The most important guideline to remember is to have fun collecting or trading the Vinylmation Figures you like.
- The main criteria to judge whether aVinylmation Figure is tradable or not is that it must bear a “Disney” mark and either a Vinylmation Logo or Art of Disney Theme Parks logo on the bottom foot stamp.
- Vinylmation Figures should be in good, original, undamaged, tradable condition.
- Create-Your-Own Vinylmation Figures are not accepted for trade.
- When trading with Cast Members, Guests may only trade for a Vinylmation Figure that is in the same proportion to the one being offered for trade (e.g. 3″ Vinylmation Figure for a 3″ Vinylmation Figure).
- Additional items (e.g. packaging, product cards, buttons, etc.) are not required to be offered in trade when trading with Cast Members.
- Guests may trade a maximum of two (2) Vinylmation Figures per location, per day.
- When trading with Cast Members from a non-mystery “Trade Me” box, Guests should offer a Vinylmation Figure not currently displayed in the box.
- Monies, gifts or receipts may not be exchanged or used in trade for a Vinylmation™ Figure.
Trading of figures is officially encouraged and practiced at Disney locations in a fashion similar to Disney pin trading.
So get out there and do it!!!
