Disney’s All Star Sports

Posted in DISNEY RESORT REVIEWS on August 14, 2011 by disneychronicles

For young children this is heaven! Especially if they love sports! Everything is oversized and colorful. This resort opened in 1994 with a room renovation completed in 2008, the 1,920-room sports-themed, Animal Kingdom-area resort is convenient to the ESPN World Wide of Sports Complex and Blizzard Beach Water Park, and is the first stop in the resort bus cue among Disney’s three All-Star hotel properties. The buildings are designed around football, baseball, basketball, tennis, and surfing themes. The turquoise surf buildings have huge waves along the roofs with colorful surfboards mounted on exterior walls and pink fish swimming along balcony railings.

The accommodations are basic but I think much better then staying off property.  A lively arcade and two themed pools will keep the kids cool and entertained after a long day at the theme parks, and when it’s time to blow off some steam, a playground and a variety of sports “fields” provide space for active fun and games.

A sports-themed food court serves up fan favorites like hot dogs, chicken wings and ice cream, and budget-friendly rates are accompanied by all of the advantages of a Walt Disney World stay, including early-entry and late-stay theme park privileges, onsite airline check-in and complimentary airport and theme park transportation. If your looking for a quiet stay this may not be the place for you.

It’s a Small World!

Posted in DISNEY ATTRACTIONS, DISNEY'S MAGIC KINGDOM on August 13, 2011 by disneychronicles

This for me at least is one of those “classic” rides! It will never go out of style. It’s one of those rides that I remember going on as a child.  I recently was able to remember that memory through my youngest sons eyes. He was in a trance and amazed. I loved it!

The ride features over 300 brightly costumed audio-animatronic dolls in the style of children of the world, frolicking in a spirit of international unity, and singing the attraction’s title song, which has a theme of global peace.

It’s A Small World traces its origins to the 1964-65 New York World’s Fair. The attraction was built for the Pepsi-Cola Company’s pavilion by WED Enterprises (which later became Walt Disney Imagineering), as a salute to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). Artist and Imagineer Mary Blair, famous for her work on many Disney films and attractions, assisted with the design. Song writing brothers Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman wrote the famous theme song.

The fair closed in 1965, and the attraction was moved to Disneyland, where it continues to entertain today. When Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom opened in October, 1971, it was given its own version.

Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter

Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter

(Moderate Resort)

I was truly surprised and really enjoyed my stay at the Port Orleans French Quarter. I was a little hesitant booking this property. It just did not look that great and I did not think it had the “Disney” feel. WOW was I ever wrong! As Disney always does they did excel at this property.  I do love New Orleans and this was a great reminder of what it s like! The customer service was wonderful right down to the southern accents some of the cast members had! Boat transportation was a very short walk (less than a minute) to the dock. The boat took us to Downtown Disney and Port Orleans Riverside resort.  The pool has a meandering serpent slide that the kids LOVED! This is one resort that I would return too!

Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter is inspired by the romance and pageantry of the historic French Quarter in New Orleans, and where every day is a celebration. Step through a wrought-iron portal into an alluring world of delicious Cajun food, jazz music and dazzling parades.

Stroll cobblestone walkways and gaze down from balconies with delicate railings as you listen to the smooth jazz backdrop and breathe in the sweet smell of magnolia blossoms in the air. As you pass by the ornate street signs, antique gas lampposts and fountains, you may just feel like you’ve been transported to The Big Easy.
